The Friday Five {May 11-13}

Wow it's been awhile.

As I said in my "Hop" post, I'm really going to make an effort to read and blog despite all the craziness of working full time, teaching lessons part time, growing a human, and grad school.  (Although in my defense, my last two courses, which spanned from January until now were really terrible - the first with 400 pages of textbook/article reading per week, and the second with a horrible facilitator/TA that had unpredictable grading and ultimately pulled my 4.0 gpa out from under me.)

So it's been a week.  And I've read blogs every day.  And I starred a lot for Friday Five.  Which got me thinking... I think I need to revamp this whole Friday Five thing.  Maybe change it from blog links to five anythings to share?  Five groups of links?  Doesn't even have to be links - maybe a picture or two, or something personal to share?  If anyone has a suggestion, I'd love to hear it!

Here are some great things before I share some links/posts with you!
*  Little baby kicks.  All the time.  Even when they're in the bladder, they're oh so lovely.
*  Jiffy Pop.  Fun to make, delicious to eat.  Kind of freaks out the cats, which only adds to the fun.
*  Kindle and Kindle App for iPad.  It magically knows where I left off on one device and drops me there with the other.

The Five:
1.  Links that made me smile.
The Green Girl in Wisconsin explains "the mom code" - I totally plan on stealing this!  A post from Pen and Paper about "lost sock memorial day", which I find completely hysterical because I lose socks all. the. time.  Where do they go, exactly???

2.  Links that made me go "yum!"
Bacon, egg, and leek risotto from Smitten Kitchen.  Who can say no to bacon?  The egg in the picture looks just the right amount of smushy to be oh-so-yum.  Leeks are just neat.  And risotto is heavenly.  I'm all about this combo!  (Is it a funny combo?  Maybe this is pregnancy hormones saying "yum"?)

3.  Links on BOOKS!
There were several reviews I read this week that prompted me to add titles to my wishlist spreadsheet!  The New Dork Review of Books wrote about Sophie's Choice - something I've never read but really should have!  Boom.  On the list.  Sarah Reads Too Much reviewed Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close - another book that really should have been read by me at this point.  I've heard so much about it!  Boom.  On the list!  Don't you love to see reviews of books you loved?  This happened to me when I read The Story Girl's review of The Glass Castle.  The Blue Bookcase shared thoughts on Perfect Madness, which sounds like a great topic but I don't think I can do it right now - I'm afraid something ranty will just fire me all up!  Lastly, I was so sad to hear that Maurice Sendak died!  I loved Where the Wild Things Are growing up, and I had forgotten about another gem - In the Night Kitchen until I saw a post about it at The Betty and Boo Chronicles!

4.  Links with fabulous quotes.
I'm not one for the memes (except for the hop and the Friday Five!), but I really loved reading the Top 10 this week.  Some great literary quotes were shared today!  Here are three that I connected with because I just loved their selections!  The Broke and the Bookish, A Room of One's Own, and Literary Musings.

5.  Links of pure beauty!
Flowers, flowers, flowers!  Some gorgeous lilacs at Whimsy, and Eastern Redbud Tree at Under My Apple Tree.

Have a great weekend, everyone!  There's a linky below if you want to link up!

  1. I leave a comment when I especially enjoy a post on a site
or I have something to contribute to the conversation.
It's triggered by the sincerness communicated in the article I browsed. And after this post "The Friday Five May 11-13". I was actually excited enough to drop a thought :-P I do have a few questions for you if you don't mind.
Is it just me or do some of the remarks look like they are written by brain dead people?
:-P And, if you are writing at other social sites,
I would like to keep up with anything new you have to post.
Would you list all of your shared sites like
