Musing Mondays

**Musing Mondays is hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading**

This week's musing asks...

What does your bookshelf (or, what do your bookshelves) say about you to the people who come into your home?

I certainly have more books than the average person. I think it is pretty clear to my visitors that I'm a reader! I have a little bit of a confession, though. I've seen so many of you post pictures of your bookshelves - and mine is not even close to being as full as yours! I use the library a lot, I think this is a big part of it (well - that and being on a budget!). I borrow books from friends quite a bit, and also, when I'm finished with a book, I lend it out to people. At any rate - my bookshelves are not overflowing, but it is quite obvious I love to read.

As for what the books say about me? I like to own the classics. My tastes are mostly fiction, and span a wide variety. I'm not into romances. Many friends ask to borrow a few titles when they come over, and I always say "Yes!".

Comments

  1. My shelves are full mostly because I go hit the library book sales once a year (40 books for about $5), and I review books, and I occasionally visit the secondhand stores that sell books for $0.50 each. Otherwise I couldn't afford to bring in any books, either.
I do make good use of the local library, too. And, if they don't have what I want, I ask them to interlibrary loan the book for me (which they'll usually do).
I can't often loan out my books, though. I've been burned by people not giving them back. Mind you, loaning out ones I've already read is easier, 'cause then I don't care quite as much -- I still do get bothered if they don't return it to me, though.

  2. I think it's wonderful that you lend books to friends and that you use the library. I used to read from the library more, and I need to get back to it. My shelves have taken over my space and I've literally run out of space.

    I should do some giveaways!

  3. I tend to lend out a lot of my books, too and I don't always get them back. Then I joined Paperback Swap, so I've gotten "rid" of a few books that way, too.

    Here's my musing.

  4. My bookshelves aren't nearly as full as others either, mostly because I'll buy 5 or 6 books at a time and won't allow myself to buy any more before I finish them. But of course my collection is slowly growing.
